Discover Restaurant Silla - Authentic Korean Cuisine

Walking into Restaurant Silla - Authentic Korean Cuisine feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that takes its food seriously without taking itself too seriously. Tucked away at 1802 W Henderson Rd, Columbus, OH 43220, United States, this diner-style Korean restaurant has quietly built a loyal following among locals who care about flavor, tradition, and consistency. I first stopped by on a cold evening after hearing coworkers rave about the soups, and the place was already buzzing with regulars chatting comfortably with the staff. That kind of atmosphere doesn’t happen by accident.

The menu leans into classic Korean comfort food rather than trendy fusion, and that focus shows. Dishes like bulgogi, bibimbap, and kimchi jjigae arrive sizzling, fragrant, and clearly made to order. One thing that stood out during my visits was how balanced everything tasted. According to food science research shared by organizations like the Korean Food Promotion Institute, traditional Korean cooking relies heavily on fermentation and slow marination to develop umami and depth. You can taste that principle at work here, especially in the house-made kimchi, which has a clean tang instead of overwhelming heat. When I asked a server about it, they explained the cabbage is fermented in-house and rotated regularly, a process that takes patience but pays off in flavor.

Portion size is another reason this restaurant gets strong reviews. A single entrée often feels like a full meal plus leftovers, which makes it a popular lunch stop for nearby offices. During one weekday visit, I watched a table of first-timers share plates family-style, pointing out how each dish tasted different but still cohesive. That’s a hallmark of Korean dining culture, where variety and balance matter more than flash. Nutrition studies published by Harvard School of Public Health often highlight Korean meals for their vegetable-forward approach, and Silla follows that tradition closely with generous servings of spinach, bean sprouts, and pickled sides.

The staff experience adds another layer of trust. On my second visit, the server remembered my spice tolerance and suggested a stew that fit perfectly. That kind of attention builds credibility, especially for diners unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. They’re happy to explain ingredients, cooking methods, and even how to mix sauces properly, which makes the experience approachable rather than intimidating. I overheard one employee explaining how to eat bibimbap properly by mixing everything thoroughly so each bite stays balanced, a small detail that shows genuine care.

Location-wise, the restaurant is easy to reach and has ample parking, which matters more than people admit. Being on W Henderson Road puts it close to residential areas while still accessible from major routes. Online reviews frequently mention consistency, and that matches my experience. Every visit delivered the same quality, from the temperature of the stone bowls to the freshness of the banchan.

There are limitations worth noting. The dining room is modest, so peak hours can feel crowded, and the menu sticks closely to traditional offerings rather than experimental dishes. For some diners, that might feel limiting, but for anyone seeking authentic Korean comfort food, it’s actually the point. The kitchen prioritizes execution over novelty, and that discipline shows in every plate.

What keeps me coming back isn’t just the food, but the sense that this restaurant knows exactly what it is. In a city with growing dining options, Silla stands out by doing the basics exceptionally well, staying rooted in tradition, and earning trust one bowl at a time.

  • I had a great experience here with the food. Everything was delicious and fulfilling. The portion size was great - I was so full after finishing my dinner. The owner is such a sweet person; she always asked me if the food was to my taste. I would come here just to enjoy the galbi tang again and again

  • I stopped by this little hidden gem in Columbus late at night while passing through for work. The owner greeted me warmly, and even though they usually don’t serve tofu soup after 9pm, he could tell I was hungry and kindly made it for me close to midnight. The tofu soup was absolutely delicious, comforting, and full of flavor. The banchan (side dishes) were fantastic — there were about a dozen different kinds, each one tasty and fresh. Such a kind gesture and wonderful food! I’m so glad I found this place — highly recommend it!

  • One of a kind authentic Korean restaurant. The octopus gimbap was unique and delicious--definitely the best gimbap we've ever been served. We also had the baby octopus and pork belly as well as the spicy pork feet, both of which were incredible. Our host was very kind and offered excellent drink recommendations, and the side dishes were so good that we finished all of them. An excellent experience overall.

  • Wonderful restaurant and food! I was not expecting such an amazing meal as I walked between the buildings to the entrance. But when the doors opened, you are greeted with this fantastical restaurant, soft jazz music, and beautiful terrariums at your table. I have never had Korean food and what a great first experience. The variety of dishes and presentation was perfect. The staff was equally impressive and attentive. I believe everyone from our sweet waitress, to the manager, to the chef came to our table to inquire how we were enjoying our meal. 10 out of 10 experience, looking forward to going back again.

She took the time to explain everything on the menu and made us feel right at home. The side dishes were outstanding — each one was so good that it’s impossible to pick a favorite. When we asked to pack up leftovers, they were very thoughtful and accommodating. Overall, it’s a wonderful place with excellent service and food. Highly recommended!

  • I know five stars is such a generous rating but this place is truly a gem. The owner is inviting, warm, and takes great care of her customers. She offers great advice on dish selections for those who may be trying Korean cuisine for the first time but also excitedly offers her recommendations for those who are feeling adventurous. The food is absolutely some of the best Korean I have had in town paired with an incredible atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to bring your friends. The food is cooked to perfection, the selection is outstanding and allows for your party to share whether you have two or ten people.
